The Ajrakh Collection

Ajrakh blockprinting by Sufiyan Khatri
The Ajrakh Collection by The ANJELMS Project is a tribute to the rich heritage of Ajrakh hand block printing. This collaboration was sparked eight years ago when we discovered a modest stack of Ajrakh-printed cotton at The Stitching Project.

Our journey led us to the workshop of master printer Suffyian Khatri and his father, Dr. Ismail Khatri, renowned custodians of the Ajrakh tradition. Stepping into their studio was akin to stepping into a treasure trove of exquisite textiles. Suffyian’s deep generosity, paired with his unwavering dedication to preserving his community’s cultural legacy, deeply inspired us.
The Ajrakh Collection is a meaningful collaboration between The ANJELMS Project and Suffyian Khatri. Combining heritage techniques with contemporary design to celebrate the beauty of traditional Ajrakh textiles and aiming to elevate this remarkable art form for the recognition it deserves.
