We Are Freo - Alice Poli

We Are Freo - Alice Poli

Meet Alice Poli. Alice is a wonderful creative working every week at the Fremantle Markets. I love Alice’s joyous Italian nature but it is her art that really touched me. It is gentle, full of hope and dreams. Alice is also a talented photographer and her sensibility shines through all the photographs she takes.

Tell us a little about yourself

I’m from Italy and I’ve been living in Fremantle for 7 years. I’m a photographer and mixed media artist.

Since I was very young, I felt secure surrounded by my world of artistic self-expression, this has always been my connection with the real world.

I attended Art School in Italy and never quit documenting my days and painting since then. As a teenager I discovered the language of photography and I fell in love with this media: the power of freezing a moment of life otherwise gone forever and transforming it into an eternal memory is priceless.

I feel connected with creating unique mixed media artworks such as collages, photo transfers, embroidered photos and quirky paintings; it feels my cup.

I cannot speak out loud with words or numbers, but I truly can through images, photos, drawing and everything about Visual Art.

What led you to Fremantle?

The vision of living abroad has always been in my mind, meeting my husband who is passionate about aboriginal culture made us think about Australia easier and closer, after several trips around Australia we finally decided to move here in the lovely Fremantle.

What is the story behind your print?

My prints and mixed media paintings are inspired by my feelings and the need to document a human connection, especially with empowered and inspired women.

What are your favourite spots in Fremantle and any tips for visitors or newcomers?

My favourite sports in Freo are the beach, for sure, I could stay hours looking at the ocean and get positive energy from it - the iconic Fremantle market, the most alive spot in Freo!
