These upcycled Suzani Coats are a dream come true for any textile lover. The Hand Embroidered Jacket, pictured, falls just below the hips depending on how tall you are. It features beautiful craftsmanship - a belt to tie at the waist or leave loose at the back, pockets of course for practicality, and beautiful cuffs on the sleeves to roll up or keep them down for the oversized campsite look. Fully lined, each jacket’s maker has thoughtfully used the Suzani to feature its original border on the front lapel of the garment, and its original centre as a feature piece placement of the back of the Jacket.

Suzani is a type of embroidered and decorative textile made in Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and other Central Asian countries. The word itself derived from the Persian سوزن Suzan which means needle.

Suzanis were traditionally used as a protective wrappings for items, prayer mats and soft furnishings in yurts (central Asian nomadic tents). Due to their constant usage, and the fragile nature of the hand embroidery, many early Suzani textiles did not last - the oldest surviving Suzani’s date back to the late 18th century.

Many Suzani’s had a symbolic meaning too, as they were often made for a bride for her wedding by her mother as part of the dowry. These symbolise the joining of two families, and were adorned with symbols of luck, health, long life and prosperity.

Our Suzani’s are handmade in India and are all unique in their colour, design, shape and story.

Stock is strictly limited, and each piece is different so please refer to the pictures for style and colour designs.
