We Are Freo - Sabine Figaro

We Are Freo - Sabine Figaro

Meet Sabine. I met this quiet French lady when she first moved to Fremantle from Sydney. She pulled out her beautiful watercolours and I encouraged her to sell them in our stores. Sabine is as quiet as I am loud, as patient as I am impulsive, as calm as I am always busy but I love her desire to explore the country, her knowledge of fauna and flora. I am fascinated by the joy her art brings, how children get so excited by it and the education it provides. Our weekly chats give us a bit of time connecting with our French heritage and I treasure that.

Tell us a little about yourself

I am Sabine a self taught watercolor artist, pottery lover and woodmaker, travel enthusiast and former microbiologist with a passion for Australian wildlife and oceans.

What led you to Fremantle?

The maze of Life

What is the story behind your print?

My hubby and I bought our first home here in Fremantle and are now linked to this very special place. We are overlooking the prison and about the same distance in another direction is the containbow . The containbow also inspired my first, WA made, kid artwork collection. The key is the symbol of balance between our joyful life here and the difficulties we are facing as 'new Australians' with family living abroad, like the first convicts I guess. Both monuments are also strongly bonded, as myself, to the Ocean and Travel.

What are your favourite spots in Fremantle and any tips for visitors or newcomers?

My absolute fav spot is the "men’s shed"! The Freo one is one of the few in Australia where everyone is welcome ! Fremantle is all about welcoming. I also love the architecture here and the Fremantle market, another strong local community. For new visitors I recommend paying attention to all the murals we have in Freo, the arty city!
