Rajasthan: Community, Culture and Craftsmanship

Five years in the making, The ANJELMS Project is delighted to finally offer you the trip of a lifetime. A 15 day tour of Rajasthan: Community, Culture & Craftsmanship. In collaboration with Fiona and Praveen of Creative Arts Safaris, a specialist textile and craft tourism operator, we will explore India through arts, architecture and textile culture - you know us, Fair Trade of course!

You will know them as our production people of The Stitching Project in Pushkar, Rajasthan. Creative Arts Safaris have been running for 14 years, then 11 years ago Fiona and Praveen settled near Pushkar, Rajasthan and started The Stitching Project as a social enterprise to create work rural people, especially women through training and opportunity.

The ANJELMS Project has worked with them for the past 5 years to produce our khadi, naturally dyed, block printed and hand stitched garments.

Along with Creative Arts Safaris, who are experienced tour guides in India, we will introduce you to this region, the wealth of its cultural history and architecture from the Pink City of Jaipur to the Blue City of Jodhpur, the city lake  of Udaipur, hopefully tiger sightings and finally the jewel of India, the Taj Mahal.

We will stroll through the colourful markets of their vibrant communities and visit artisans’ villages and social enterprises to discover their traditional craftsmanship skills.

This journey will include a 3 days stay at The Stitching Project in Pushkar, to meet the team who makes our garments, and learn about the ethical and sustainable practices used in the processes. You can treat the workshop like your home, using your inspiration gathered throughout this journey to create your own block printed or hand dyed piece to take home.

Fiona, Praveen and I hope that through this adventure you will be able to truly connect with the people and culture of the India and as we have through our work, simply learn to love it.

Throughout these 15 days, we wish to share with you our commitment to sustainable and fair practices while showing you the positive changes our choices can make in the everyday lives of local communities and our environment and build connections built on respect, appreciation and a great deal of fun!
